To begin with, I should explain why I named the post "days of thunder".
OK--
So, I was like..."hmmm, I want to say something about 'Day' because all of my posts have been titled by the day, thus far."
THEN i was like..."Ouuuu, I get my high-speed internet installed today!!"
So then i was all..."hmmm, maybe i should name it 'high-speed' day?"
But that was dumb so I said..."No, that's dumb."
Followed by..."Ummm....'Days of Thunder' was fast...and it has 'Day' in it!"
Concluding with..."Perfect!"
It should be noted that I actually make every blog post title a click-able link to a random thing on the Internet that is vaguely related to my feelings on the title. If you don't see any connections between today's title and the image i liked it to, then you need to watch Days of Thunder again.
Now that I'm past that, I have to think of something cool to talk about--
I spent last weekend in the Lud, as well. All fun and games. Naturally. We lucked out. My father was freed up from a work-related engagement a day earlier than expected, so he was able to join us for the weekend. Which was swell.
On...Saturday....yeah, Saturday. So on Saturday we went out to a big lake, which is just a little warmer than the nearby Great Lakes, and took about 2 hours to kayak around the lake and take in the views. It was really fun.
At some point we found this eroded cliff which was, now, basically a super-steep, single-faced, sand dune. So the Girl and I climbed it and got to look down on the lake from quite a decent vantage point. Mum and Father joined us on this little ledge (there wasn't even really a beach to dock the kayaks. We just pulled them up onto the 'face' off the 'cliff' and hoped the sand would hold them.) It was cool. We all got some nice scenic pictures and got to play around and watch Mum try and slide her way down the face of the dune without biting the dust.
Other than that, the weekend was pretty chill.
Just a little too cold to go swimming, really...except for the Girl...She had fewer reservations (or brains, in this case :-o ) than the rest of us. So she went in whilst kayaking. but otherwise, it was way to chilly to try to enjoy the water.
I headed back to the Saug' on Sunday to ensure that I was back in time to catch the Wings' game. Great game!
Last nights game, game 3, was not quite so great. Well, they played superbly.
Good job funneling Pitts through the neutral zone on defense. Great work and energy for the forwards coming back and helping on the backcheck. Really excellent passing, keeping their heads up, active sticks on offense. Those defense men who just wait at the blue line are making huge plays there. Lindstom, Ericsson, Kronwall, Raffles. They are all really getting in there to make the play. Unfortunately there were two disappointments.
First: The Wings seemed a lot less aggressive. They seemed to be focusing more on keeping an active stick and passing up the big hit in order to save a few milliseconds, ya know. Maybe trying to hope to beat the Pitts off the boards or trying to out run them...Not very likely. Though I'm seeing a lot of really active sticks, which is great...and All they can talk about on tv...ugh, they need some new material to work with.
Second: Jiri Hudler, my favorite young Wing, just doesn't seem to have developed his Playoff-game, yet. He just doesn't seem to have the eye for it. And that saddens me deeply. I love the kid. I'd just like to see him make some more plays and really contribute like he does during the regular season. I think if he can keep his head up a little more in the offensive zone, and give up the reigns of his position, a bit, he'll really improve. What I mean by that is that, first, he's not really making the plays. He's missing his chance to make those big passes. He's missing those passes that come to him. And he is too busy trying to stay on the Rightside boards, so he is missing a lot of plays that he should really be diving into.
Also, this a message directly to him: Shoot the puck!! I dont care how afraid you are! Quit passing it and just take a shot! you've only had ONE shot in the playoffs, and that was more of a deflection, last night! Come on, man!
Ok, enough with my hockey talk. Except that I think we're going to take it in game 5...hometown wins are always the best.
Today, at The Keeper's house, we're having a Lasagna party!
Apparently one of the Aunts in the area makes the best lasagna in the world, but her husband is always away on business. Granted, it doesn't make sense, nor is it easy, to make lasagna for one person. So she's going to come over and feed me, The Keeper, herself, and maybe 2 MORE family memebers of some sort...there is so much family around here that I dont even try to keep up with it, anymore.
So my good buddy Mr. Pooky is back from his long-lost trip in Europe with his bonnie lass. He was gone for a good while and, in the time he was gone, I got the job in Saugatuck and moved myself out here. So he seemed a little surprised that, not only did I job, but that, upon his return, I lived 4 hours away from where he THOUGHT I was going to be living. But I've gotten to talk to him a little about the trip. Sounds like he had a "good" time. haha. But no, it sounds like it was great. And he'll hopefully starting his work in Detroit shortly.
To me, that just sounds like a good excuse to get downtown a few times this summer, which is just fine with me.
It should be noted that I dont actually know much about the trip. Every time I call him it seems like all I can do is talk about my own antics and weird little things that are going around in my life. So hopefully he hasn't been waiting for the right moment to tell me that he proposed or anything.
Umm...Aside from all this nonesense? I dont think I have much to say.
I've been biking alot. Every day after work I go out for about 30-45 minutes. I spend all of my time on dirt roads (mostly wet and sloggy). but they aren't supposed to be dirt roads. they're all under construction, which is sweet. Because that means that they're much more difficult to ride in. Deep, soft, unpacked, wet dirt. mmmhmmm. Good stuff. And, of course, all sorts of bumps, holes, and mini-ramps for me to play with. And, the most important part of the ride--The great hill. There is a hill in the middle of my ride that is just impossible. I'm actually a little surprised that I can even make it up without having to stop TWICE. But I make it and then huff-and-puff my way to the next big hill. It's lots of fun. Hopefully it's a step in a healthy-ish direction.
...I think I'm done for the day. Maybe my next blog post will be written from the comforts of my own bed, seeing as I'll have my high-speed internet installed today! Yaaay.
Ok, take care, all. I'll hopefully get to talk to all of you soon!
